Why "The Week That Was"

The Hub: A Digital Corner for Our Neighbors

I didn’t set out to write a blog. The idea actually came to me with a pair of lost earbuds (see details in our inaugural blog for the week of March 2nd thru 8th, 2026) and a sense of frustration. We have a physical lost-and-found here at the shop, but unless a customer realizes they may have left them here or there’s contact information written on the lost item, I have no way to let them know we have it.

Over the years, I have seen my lost-and-found bin grow and grow until, at some point, I have to make the decision to throw things out. This made me realize I needed a digital bridge to help these items find their way home.

But as I thought about that bridge, it dawned on me that Chick & Roll has become more than just a place to eat a meal or hang out with friends... it has evolved into a small community hub here in Tenafly. On any given day, our store is a touchpoint for parents, students, and neighbors—and what happens in our "little corner" of Tenafly is part of the larger and rich mosaic that makes Tenafly special.

Whether it’s the high energy of a school event, the madness of our after-school rushes, a local fundraiser, or simply a misplaced pair of earbuds, it’s all part of that local fabric. "The Week That Was" is our way of documenting these moments, reuniting lost items with their owners, and keeping us all a little more connected. In its essence, it is a miniature local bulletin board for Chick & Roll and our neighboring community.
