Our College-Bound Seniors
There are weeks at Chick & Roll that remind us why we do what we do — and this is one of them. We have had the privilege of watching several of our staff members grow up right here in this store — coming in first as customers, then as employees, and somewhere along the way becoming people we are genuinely proud to know. This week we want to celebrate four of them, the seniors on our staff as they head off to begin the next chapter of their lives.
Sungha Im will be attending Middlebury College. Eunice Kim will be attending Case Western Reserve University — after turning down the University of Chicago, which deserves its own round of applause. Daniel Kim will be attending Grinnell College. And new joiner Alex Kho will be attending Yale University.
We are so proud of each of them — not just for where they are going, but for who they are. They have shown up, worked hard, treated our customers with warmth and care, and represented Chick & Roll with a grace that we will not easily replace. We wish them everything good that life has to offer — and can't wait to see what they become.
To Sungha, Eunice, Daniel and Alex — thank you for being part of our story. Go make us proud. We'll be watching.
Cup O'Snow (Bingsu) is Back
Just in time for spring — and not a moment too soon — our shaved milk ice is back.
For those who have been asking, we hear you and we are sorry for the wait. Our bingsu machine needed some significant attention over the winter and is now fully repaired and ready to go.
For the uninitiated — bingsu is Korean shaved ice, but our ice is made from milk rather than water, which gives it a texture closer to fresh snow than traditional shaved ice. Lighter than ice cream, more substantial than a slushie, and topped with condensed milk, homemade fruit syrup and fresh fruit — it is genuinely one of those things you have to try to understand.
We are serving it this spring in four flavors — Matcha Strawberry, Strawberry, Mango, and Injeolmi, which is made with roasted soybean powder and has a nutty, subtly sweet flavor that is unlike anything else on our menu.
Spring has arrived. Come celebrate it properly.
